About the role
- Senior Software Engineer building LLM infrastructure and AI foundations for Relay’s digital banking platform. Exploring emerging technologies and enabling product teams to ship AI workflows safely.
Responsibilities
- Build and deploy secure, reusable LLM systems for differentiated product experiences
- Own AI infrastructure across its full lifecycle, from design through deployment and monitoring
- Lead exploratory initiatives evaluating and validating emerging technologies
- Produce recommendations on whether and how Relay should adopt evaluated technologies
- Provide tooling, patterns, and guidance to enable teams to ship AI workflows quickly and safely
- Partner with product teams as an AI technical expert and advise on technical decisions
- Identify technical, process, and product improvements
- Influence technical direction and long-term strategy
- Build technology foundations enabling AI and insights across Relay’s digital banking platform
- Harden infrastructure used by other engineering teams and prototype emerging technologies
- Mentor junior engineers and support team-wide growth and skill development
- Participate in a five-stage interview process including video interviews, live coding, a take-home system design challenge, and an in-person leadership interview
Requirements
- 3+ years of full-stack software engineering experience
- Experience leading significant components or features with minimal oversight
- Ability to move between exploratory prototypes and production-ready systems
- Strong judgment in evaluating emerging technologies
- Experience mentoring junior engineers
- Ability to drive code quality, performance optimization, and development-process improvements
- Curiosity about new frameworks, best practices, and emerging technologies
- Comfort working in fast-paced, dynamic environments with ambiguity and change
- Collaborative approach and willingness to give and receive feedback
- End-to-end ownership and creative problem solving
- Agentic AI experience is a plus
- Startup or high-growth technology company experience is a bonus
- Hands-on LLM experience, including self-hosting or serving open models, retrieval systems, evaluation, or agentic workflows, is a bonus
- Experience building platforms or shared services for engineering teams is a bonus
- JavaScript experience is a bonus; primary technologies include TypeScript, React, and Node.js
- AWS experience with ECS, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda, and continuous deployment pipelines is a bonus
- Ability to join the Toronto office three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday)
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Must address current or future sponsorship requirements to work in Canada
