About the role
- Senior Software Engineer building LLM infrastructure and AI foundations for Relay’s digital banking platform. Exploring emerging technologies and enabling product teams to ship AI workflows safely.
Responsibilities
- Build and deploy secure, reusable LLM systems for product experiences
- Own AI infrastructure across its lifecycle, from design through deployment and monitoring
- Lead exploratory initiatives and proof-of-concepts for emerging technologies
- Produce recommendations on whether and how Relay should adopt evaluated technologies
- Provide teams with tooling, patterns, and guidance to ship AI workflows quickly and safely
- Partner with product teams as an AI technical expert
- Help teams make sound technical decisions rather than building everything for them
- Identify technical, process, and product improvement opportunities
- Influence technical direction and long-term strategy
- Participate in live coding, system design, and interview processes as described
Requirements
- 3+ years of full-stack software engineering experience
- Experience leading development of significant components or features with minimal oversight
- Ability to move between exploratory prototypes and production-ready systems
- Strong judgment in evaluating emerging technology
- Experience mentoring junior engineers
- Ability to drive code quality, performance optimization, and development process improvements
- Curiosity about new frameworks, best practices, and emerging technologies
- Comfort working in fast-paced, dynamic environments and navigating ambiguity and change
- Collaborative approach and willingness to give and receive feedback
- End-to-end ownership and proactive problem solving
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Must be able to join the Toronto office three days a week (Tues/Weds/Thurs)
- Agentic AI experience is a plus
- Startup or high-growth technology company experience is a bonus
- Hands-on LLM experience, including self-hosting or serving open models, retrieval systems, evaluation, or agentic workflows, is a bonus
- Platform or shared services experience is a bonus
- JavaScript experience is a bonus
- Working knowledge of AWS services and continuous deployment pipelines is a bonus
- Successful background check and employment verification through Certn required
