Hardware Engineer planning and architecting hardware solutions for advanced simulation and training systems at RTX. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to meet customer requirements and ensure compliance.
Responsibilities
Manage hardware-related requirements for diverse systems involving Canadian and international subcontractors.
Develop and/or manage hardware engineering documentation, including specifications, diagrams/schematics, Interface Control Documents, test requirements, and test plans.
Conduct trade studies and provide recommendations for integrating new technologies to enhance system capabilities.
Estimate engineering effort for specific tasks and projects through detailed job analysis.
Collaborate with Engineering Cost Account Managers to support financial Earned Value (EV) accountability and meet approved Estimates at Completion (EAC).
Ensure compliance with technical processes and policies, including Engineering Bid Reviews (EBRs) and Engineering Program Reviews (EPRs).
Monitor program metrics and ensure the application of Technical Performance Measures (TPMs) to assess progress and risk.
Identify and manage technical Risks and Opportunities (R&Os), leveraging enterprise capabilities to mitigate risks and realize opportunities.
Manage supplier relationships, co-authoring Statements of Work (SOWs), requirements specifications, and ensuring engineering process compliance.
Support manufacturing processes through plan reviews, troubleshooting, and inspections.
Provide accurate and timely status reports to Program Managers and the Engineering Director.
Ensure hardware engineering tasks comply with Raytheon Canada Limited’s engineering policies and procedures.
Support business development activities, including hardware engineering for new project pursuits.
Assist in meeting customer requirements for existing programs, including conducting technical investigations, integration development, and program review meetings.
Provide technical guidance and development support to other engineering staff on hardware engineering-related issues.
Drive growth by expanding the scope of assigned projects and identifying opportunities for additional development initiatives.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Must be eligible for professional registration (Professional Engineer) under the provincial Association of Professional Engineers in the province of practice.
A minimum of 6 years of practical experience in a hardware engineering or related field.
Expertise with EDA (Electronic Design Automation) software, CAD tools, and testing equipment.
Strong problem-solving skills for debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
Knowledge of Systems Engineering and Logistics, Digital Technologies Implementation, and Life Cycle Management.
Strong organizational and communication skills with an emphasis on digitally driven, complex system designs across multi-disciplinary teams.
Strong presentation skills with engineering thought leadership to deliver solutions to customers and teammates.
Familiarity and experience within one or more of the following: Training Management Systems for simulated environments, Mobile, Local and Wide area networks architectures and deployments, Command and Control (C2) and Situational Awareness (SA) applications and architecture, Modeling and Simulation applications and architectures for large scale simulators and training.
Knowledge of Requirement Management Tools, such as DOORS.
Strong project engineering management skills which will include forecasting, budgeting and the ability to meet various objectives set out in a variety of plans.
Well-developed leadership skills including the ability to mentor others and think outside the box to sustain and grow the business.
Strong computer skills in the Microsoft suite of programs and various other computer programs.
Able to travel internationally.
Bilingual in English and French is an asset.
