About the role

  • HIM Coder at Scarborough Health Network responsible for coding and abstracting patient records. Reporting to the Manager of Coding and Data Quality and engaging in education on safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coding and abstracting patient records
  • Reporting to the Manager of Coding and Data Quality
  • Engaging in regular in-service education in safety programs and practices
  • Utilize protective equipment and report hazards

Requirements

  • Secondary school graduate or equivalent
  • Successful completion of a CHIMA recognized HIM program and CHIM certification, member in good standing with CHIMA
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in NACRS ED coding required, NACRS SDC coding is an asset
  • Strong Communication, Interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Computer experience/background
  • Exposure to Lean principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools
  • Engages in ethical conduct and strives to appreciate the diversity of patient/staff population
  • Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct
