About the role

  • Fire Protection Engineer planning and designing fire protection systems for institutional and commercial projects at Stantec. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and deliver complex fire protection systems for a variety of projects.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and fire hydrant flow analysis in accordance with NFPA standards.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Conduct fire and life safety code analyses and provide technical guidance to project teams.
  • Apply engineering judgment to resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Perform field investigations, construction site visits, and inspections.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in fire protection engineering.
  • Experience performing sprinkler system hydraulic calculations using tools such as HydraCAD, HydraCalc, or AutoSprink.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA codes and standards, the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), and the National Fire Code of Canada (NFCC).
  • Familiarity with provincial building codes and regulatory requirements across Canada is an asset.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout project development and construction phases.
  • Experience using Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office; exposure to additional building performance tools is an asset.
