Responsibilities
Carry out design studies from conceptual level through detailed engineering for tailings management systems, waste rock dumps and water management infrastructure.
Design and size earthworks, embankments, dams, slopes and retaining structures, including geomembrane and filtration/drainage systems.
Plan and lead site geotechnical investigations, from data acquisition to development of technical recommendations.
Perform numerical modelling, static and dynamic stability analyses, and assessments of soil and tailings liquefaction potential.
Develop and oversee geotechnical instrumentation systems, interpret monitoring data, support field teams, coordinate with related disciplines and present solutions to clients.
Mentor and train junior and intermediate engineers, while ensuring rigorous technical review of reports and deliverables.
Validate design criteria and develop, maintain and evolve internal geotechnical practice standards.
Prepare and contribute to comprehensive geotechnical reports, including technical memos, design criteria and detailed stability reports.
Produce calculation notes, ensure quality control (QA/QC) and develop figures, technical drawings and models.
Participate in the preparation of technical proposals for new mandates.
Requirements
Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical specialization
PhD in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical specialization — an asset
Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
Minimum of 15 years of geotechnical experience in the mining industry
Significant experience in design, stability assessment and management of tailings storage facilities (TSFs), waste rock dumps and associated containment structures
Strong expertise in geotechnical characterization of mining materials, embankment and dam design, and stability analysis of structures
Good understanding of mining operations and tailings management, with proven experience in an engineering consulting environment
Required software: Proficiency with core geotechnical tools including GEO-SLOPE (SLOPE/W, SEEP/W), PLAXIS or RS2, and AutoCAD
Complementary tools (asset): Experience with FLAC and with computational or programming environments such as MATLAB or Python
Excellent communication skills in French and English, strong teaching/mentoring ability and proven effectiveness in multidisciplinary, multicultural teams
Critical and analytical mindset, with demonstrated ability to make timely, well-founded technical decisions
Desirable: Experience working in the mining industry on closure and site rehabilitation projects. Demonstrated technical contributions through publications or presentations, supported by additional professional certifications.
