About the role
- Senior Security Platform Developer automating Sun Life’s cybersecurity operations with Python, Splunk SOAR, and Ansible. Designing resilient integrations, playbooks, and enterprise security workflows.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain complex Splunk SOAR automation solutions and Python playbooks
- Integrate security platforms, APIs, and enterprise systems to automate security and operational processes
- Design and develop reusable Ansible Automation Platform workflows and YAML components for provisioning, certificate management, and system deployment and configuration
- Act as senior technical escalation point for automation platforms and troubleshoot complex application, integration, API, authentication, and workflow issues
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers through code reviews, troubleshooting assistance, and solution design guidance
- Translate business and security requirements into technical designs and automation solutions
- Lead technical design and implementation for security initiatives and enterprise-level projects, including proofs of concept, capability evaluation, integrations, and production transition
- Establish development standards and engineering practices for security automation
- Lead continuous improvement across security platforms and operational processes
- Own solutions through design, development, testing, implementation, production support, maintenance, and retirement or replacement
- Lead transition and operationalization of project deliverables into business-as-usual support
- Develop and maintain cybersecurity playbooks, technical documentation, procedures, and knowledge-base articles
- Provide technical consultation and identify architectural, operational, and integration risks
- Participate in the team’s 24x7 on-call rotation and support major incidents with advanced troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and recurrence-prevention recommendations
- Collaborate with infrastructure, application, security, and architecture teams on scalable integrations
- Drive automation maturity through reusable frameworks, common libraries, and standardized integration patterns
Requirements
- 5+ years of Python development experience designing, developing, testing, and supporting production-level automation and integrations
- An Information Technology university degree/college diploma in a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and 7+ years of relevant Information Technology experience
- 5+ years of experience within Cyber Security, Security Engineering, Platform Engineering, DevOps, or a related technical discipline
- Strong experience with REST APIs, JSON, authentication mechanisms, and enterprise systems
- Strong understanding of source control (Git), code reviews, testing, error handling, logging, debugging, and maintainable software design
- Ability to independently diagnose complex problems and provide technical direction during production and major incidents
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete applicable background checks before the start date and during employment
- Professional designation such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, GIAC, AWS, or CompTIA Security+ is preferred
- Experience with SOAR tools such as Splunk SOAR or Cortex XSOAR
- Experience with Ansible development
- Experience developing with Python and YAML
- Experience planning, researching, and developing security policies, standards, and procedures
- Knowledge of endpoint detection and response, intrusion detection, cryptographic technologies, certificate management, email security, web content filtering, or cloud security
- Knowledge of Security Information and Event Management platforms and log types
- Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
- Experience deploying enterprise-level technology through managed projects
- Knowledge of networking technologies, firewalls, web application firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, cloud technologies, and disaster recovery
- Strong spoken and written communication skills
