About the role
- Senior Software Engineer supporting Sun Life’s Java applications and IT operations. Maintaining production reliability through development, monitoring, security, and incident response.
Responsibilities
- Provide ongoing support for Java-based applications in production and test environments
- Respond to service requests and perform incident and problem analysis
- Perform service restoration and recovery, security vulnerability remediation, audits, and reporting
- Design, develop, test, and debug Java service programs
- Deploy applications using Kubernetes containers
- Interface with Software Engineers, Business Systems Analysts, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions
- Maintain a stable application environment through proactive monitoring, security compliance, change management, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis
- Identify and participate in continuous improvement, system renewal, stability, upgrade, and Disaster Recovery projects
- Participate in an on-call and after-hours support rotation
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent discipline
- At least 10 years of information technology experience in Java application support and development
- 10+ years of experience with Java, JavaScript, HTML, XML, and CSS
- Experience with Java Enterprise Edition technologies, including Servlet, JDBC, and JSP
- Experience with Spring framework
- Understanding of ITIL, CMMI, and SDLC methodologies
- 4+ years of experience with ReactJS/React.js
- Experience with Kubernetes and Docker
- Experience with Java SpringBoot and SpringMVC
- Experience with Web Security/OWASP
- Experience with SOAP, REST API, Java APIs, and JSON
- Experience with SQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL
- Experience with Jenkins, Artifactory, Bitbucket/Git, Gradle, Maven, CDD, and Ansible
- Experience with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
- Experience with Kafka and light car proxy
- Canadian Protected-B (Reliability clearance), requiring a minimum of 5 years of consecutive residency in Canada
- Ability to work independently and in a dynamic environment with changing priorities
- Strong technical, analytical, debugging, problem-solving, written communication, and verbal communication skills
- Collaboration and teamwork skills
- Preferred: exposure to Agile frameworks such as Kanban and Scrum
- Nice to have: experience with AWS-hosted applications/servers
- Nice to have: exposure to Confluence, JIRA, and MS Teams
- Nice to have: knowledge of WebSphere/WebLogic middleware technologies
