About the role
- Digital editor shaping The Globe and Mail’s Canadian news experience across apps, homepages, alerts, and newsletters. Editing stories, optimizing presentation, and using audience analytics to engage subscribers.
Responsibilities
- Ensure fast and best coverage of breaking news and stories that matter most to subscribers
- Choose stories and visuals for the top of app and website homepages
- Copy edit and publish staff and wire stories across news, business, and longform features
- Write SEO-friendly headlines, decks, captions, and other display copy
- Publish stories with strong visual selection of photos, graphics, and videos
- Write mobile push alerts and curate newsletters
- Use audience analytics to identify opportunities and inform decisions
- Suggest stories for coverage
- Experiment with how and when to reach audiences
- Collaborate with editors and reporters across the newsroom to create digital news experiences on app and mobile platforms
Requirements
- At least three years experience working in digital media
- Solid news judgment
- Strong headline writing and story editing skills
- Familiarity with what makes a rich digital storytelling experience
- Clear communicator and excellent multitasker
- Avid news consumer
- Ability to work shifts that include early mornings, nights or weekends
- Comfortable working in digital content management systems, content planning tools, and other platforms
- Business journalism experience is an asset
