About the role

  • UI/UX Designer building menus, HUDs, and responsive UMG interfaces for Torn Banner Studios’ No More Room In Hell 2. Collaborating with game designers and programmers on live-game UI.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement game UI, menus, HUDs, widgets, and interactive interfaces
  • Build and maintain UI directly in Unreal Engine using UMG
  • Create UI layouts, states, navigation, interactions, and transitions
  • Turn UI concepts and visual designs into functional in-game interfaces
  • Work closely with UI programmers to integrate visual assets into the game
  • Collaborate with game designers and programmers to define and implement UI requirements
  • Prototype UI quickly in Unreal and iterate based on playtesting and feedback
  • Maintain consistency across the game's different UI systems and screens
  • Help define reusable UI patterns and components
  • Ensure UI is responsive, readable, and intuitive during gameplay
  • Support UI implementation from prototype through to final polish and live updates

Requirements

  • Professional experience as a UI Designer in the games industry
  • Strong understanding of game UI design and visual hierarchy
  • Hands-on experience creating and implementing UI in Unreal Engine
  • Strong knowledge of UMG (Unreal Motion Graphics)
  • Comfortable working directly in the Unreal Editor
  • Experience building menus, HUDs, widgets, and interactive UI flows
  • Ability to work with UI art assets and integrate them into functional interfaces
  • Understanding of basic UX principles, particularly around navigation, menus, and player flows
  • Experience working on live games and iterating UI based on player needs and feedback
  • Comfortable collaborating with programmers, designers, and artists
  • Strong attention to detail and a good eye for polish
  • Experience shipping and maintaining UI systems on a live game
  • Current Ontario or Quebec residency, or willingness to relocate to Ontario
  • Bonus: Familiarity with Unreal Blueprints and basic scripting
  • Bonus: Experience prototyping UI/UX directly in-engine
  • Bonus: Understanding of accessibility and usability best practices
  • Bonus: Some knowledge of UI animation and motion design
  • Bonus: Experience collaborating closely with gameplay programmers and technical designers
