About the role
- IT Design Architect II designing resilient network, compute, storage, and Azure infrastructure for VC3’s municipal and organizational clients. Guiding architecture proposals and implementations.
Responsibilities
- Ensure infrastructure work aligns with the Business Architecture framework, IT strategy, strategic drivers, and standards
- Work with Client Strategy, PMO, Implementation, and Onboarding teams to onboard client technologies and define future network, compute, and storage infrastructure
- Assess systems requirements and designs against best practices, technology advances, industry standards, and business needs
- Provide direction on feasible, cost-effective solutions to meet system architecture and design needs
- Follow and maintain VC3 standards and processes
- Consult with Client Strategic Advisors and clients on IT approaches and directions
- Develop and maintain a catalog of VC3 technical capabilities, technologies, and platforms; identify overlaps and gaps
- Translate client business and technical requirements into value-based proposals addressing business drivers and pain points
- Manage internal proposal requests and ensure proposed solutions are complete and appropriate
- Oversee implementation of technical architecture by producing high-level blueprints and scopes
- Prepare architecture-standard situation analyses covering reliability, capacity growth, backups, and related areas
- Analyze technical requirements to determine platform infrastructure designs, potential issues, and costs
- Participate in Project Implementation Reviews to evaluate project scope accuracy and current best practices
- Monitor industry standards, software and data innovation, architectural trends, and major technology vendors
- Maintain product-line information and update labor, product, and high-level review templates
- Maintain accurate timesheets and complete troubleshooting and client communication notes
- Escalate complicated issues when appropriate
- Participate in team huddles, L10 meetings, one-on-ones, training, and other team meetings
- Maintain clear communication with clients and colleagues
- Collaborate across VC3 departments to maximize client satisfaction
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science, diploma, or equivalent experience
- At least 5+ years’ direct experience supporting and maintaining Server, Storage, Network & Backups in SMB environments
- Good problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to understand and analyze complex issues
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to handle varied responsibilities efficiently
- Very strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships, solicit cooperation, and resolve conflicts
- Ability to collaborate across IT disciplines
- Excellent communication skills, including documenting, visualizing, presenting to mixed audiences, and balancing talking and listening
- Advanced knowledge of identity, directory, authentication/authorization, single sign-on, access management, encryption, data privacy, backup, and disaster recovery
- Expert knowledge of compute, storage, network, load balancing, scalability, and availability
- Intermediate practical knowledge of cloud platform strategy and implementation, including PaaS, SaaS, HaaS, and IaaS in Microsoft Azure
- Strong experience determining and addressing non-functional requirements, including response times, availability, disaster recovery, scalability, and data retention
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft licensing models for Azure and on-premises infrastructure
- Proven record of architecting and building solutions for business-critical operations, high availability, backup, restore, and disaster recovery
- Must pass criminal and Department of Motor Vehicles background checks
- Must meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) requirements post-employment
