About the role

  • Senior Digital Hardware Engineer responsible for defining digital hardware architecture for complex networking platforms. Leading hardware design and validation for multi-gigabit systems in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Define digital hardware architecture for complex networking platforms
  • Select and integrate FPGA/SoC processors, transceivers, and memory architectures
  • Establish interface strategy (PCIe, Ethernet, SERDES, JESD, LVDS, etc.)
  • Drive timing closure, clocking architecture, and data-path performance
  • Architect and review 10–16+ layer high-speed PCBs
  • Define routing constraints, impedance strategy, skew budgets, and jitter margins
  • Guide layout activity to ensure high-speed signal integrity and clean execution
  • Lead signal integrity and power integrity methodology
  • Guide IBIS/IBIS-AMI, S-parameter, and PDN simulations
  • Debug high-speed failures and root-cause digital performance issues
  • Define validation plans for BER, jitter tolerance, and interface margin testing
  • Lead hardware bring-up and interface validation
  • Provide digital architecture guidance to FPGA, firmware, mechanical, and test teams
  • Influence roadmap decisions (FPGA families, processor platforms, memory strategy)

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in high-speed digital hardware development
  • Proven ownership of architecture-level decisions on complex boards
  • Experience bringing multi-gigabit systems from schematic to production
  • Strong experience in most of the following: PCIe, Ethernet, SERDES, XFI, XAUI, JESD, LVDS, or similar high-speed interfaces
  • FPGA architecture & transceiver configuration
  • DDR memory channel modeling & tuning
  • SI/PI simulation tools (IBIS, IBIS-AMI, S-parameters, PDN analysis)
  • Multi-layer PCB design tools (Altium, PADS, or equivalent)
  • Lab proficiency with high-bandwidth scopes, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, and protocol tools
