About the role
- Senior Security Engineer protecting Kin’s cloud-based homeowners insurance platform. Owning endpoint detection, AWS security, identity controls, and incident response.
Responsibilities
- Own and tune the EDR/MDR stack, detection policies, runbooks, and automation
- Lead incident response from investigation through containment and remediation
- Own endpoint security across managed and BYOD devices
- Set device posture standards, hardening baselines, and data-access policies
- Define identity security requirements and partner with IT on SSO implementation
- Shape the RBAC model and drive recurring access reviews
- Build and remediate security controls across AWS, Google Workspace, identity, and data protection
- Respond quickly to security tickets and questions across Kin
- Conduct threat modeling and deliver actionable risk assessments
- Educate employees and build a company-wide security culture
- Remediate cloud vulnerabilities and misconfigurations directly
- Improve detection quality, device posture management, access reviews, and closure of high-risk security gaps
Requirements
- 5+ years in security operations, detection and response, or security engineering
- Hands-on experience running a modern EDR program, including detection logic, response runbooks, and investigations through containment
- Endpoint security experience across managed and BYOD fleets, including device posture, hardening baselines, and MDM
- Identity and access management experience, including access control requirements, RBAC models, and access reviews in an SSO environment
- AWS security experience across IAM, network controls, logging, and configuration management, with direct remediation experience
- Comfort working in infrastructure-as-code environments and automating security tasks
- Threat modeling experience across systems, processes, or vendor implementations
- Fast, reliable responsiveness on security requests
- Experience working alongside IT on shared systems and setting security requirements
- Track record of driving security remediation through completion
- Ability to explain security risk to non-technical audiences
- Terraform and CI/CD pipeline experience is a bonus
- Zero trust networking experience is a bonus
- Working knowledge of NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and SOX is a bonus
- Experience securing a fully remote workforce is a bonus
- Experience building security awareness or training programs is a bonus
- Google Workspace security administration experience is a bonus
- Security certifications such as AWS Certified Security Specialty, GCIH, or GCIA are a bonus
- Must be able to live and work full-time in one of the listed U.S. states, or in Ontario for remote technical positions located in Canada
