About the role

Senior Engineer modernizing Xero’s distributed accounting software systems. Designing scalable architectures, improving developer tooling, and mentoring engineers in Vancouver’s hybrid team.

Responsibilities

Solve engineering problems at scale and influence the architecture and implementation of distributed systems
Refactor complex monolithic systems into high-quality, scalable software and distributed architectures
Make major code design decisions and contribute to global engineering standards
Collaborate with engineers, product owners, and designers using agile delivery practices
Participate in code reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions
Modernize systems and build scalable architectures
Enhance developer experience through CI/CD tooling and TDD practices
Build and maintain a diverse technology stack
Develop and implement technical solution designs aligned with long-term engineering frameworks
Mentor and coach engineers to help them grow

Proven experience delivering and operating complex, large-scale systems in distributed/high-availability environments
Strong engineering fundamentals and ability to ramp quickly across adjacent technologies
Background designing and building high-quality software using a range of languages and tools
Ability to lead major code design decisions and contribute to wider technical solutioning
Experience with automated testing, refactoring, and agile delivery
Experience with CI/CD concepts and tooling, and TDD practices
Experience with C#, .NET, React, AWS, and Kubernetes
Ability to mentor engineers and coach them through complex technical challenges
Passion for maintaining and sharing technical knowledge
Must have working rights for Canada
