About the role

  • Supply chain manager leading material and supply planning for Seaspan’s Vancouver shipbuilding operations. Aligning MRP, inventory, procurement, and production requirements across vessel programs.

Responsibilities

  • Establish strategic direction, goals, priorities, performance measures, and operating standards for VSY Material Planning and Supply Planning
  • Oversee vessel material structures, material master data, Bills of Material (BOMs), and manufacturing BOMs
  • Ensure material planning supports program schedules, production milestones, engineering requirements, procurement activities, and financial objectives
  • Oversee material planning work packages, material demand schedules, and planning data
  • Establish and maintain planning standards, procedures, and data quality controls
  • Monitor MRP and material planning data integrity and accuracy
  • Govern supply planning and material demand planning processes
  • Translate engineering outputs, BOMs, inventory requirements, and production schedules into actionable supply plans
  • Oversee inventory planning strategies, order policies, fulfillment approaches, storage strategies, and material allocation
  • Lead continuous improvement of supply planning processes and governance frameworks
  • Optimize procurement, transportation, inventory, and storage costs while maximizing material availability
  • Coordinate alignment across Engineering, Planning, Procurement, Production, Operations, Warehousing, and Program teams
  • Serve as primary escalation point for planning-related risks, constraints, and issues
  • Integrate planning processes with enterprise systems, technology roadmaps, and business processes
  • Support bid development, program planning, strategic initiatives, and resource forecasting
  • Manage departmental resource planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
  • Act as Control Account Manager (CAM) for assigned planning scopes
  • Monitor KPIs for material availability, inventory levels, plan accuracy, schedule adherence, and productivity
  • Provide reports, updates, and executive-level briefings on performance, risks, and improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in supply planning, material planning, inventory management, demand planning, or related supply chain functions in a complex manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing multi-functional planning teams
  • Experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and supply chain planning systems
  • Experience leading cross-functional process design, organizational change, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Experience working within large-scale manufacturing, industrial, marine, aerospace, defense, or heavy-equipment environments is preferred
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM), program scheduling, and project controls is considered an asset
  • Experience with planning and scheduling tools such as Primavera, Microsoft Project, SAP, Oracle, IFS, or equivalent systems is preferred
  • Strong business planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance management skills
  • Strong change management and organizational development capabilities
  • Advanced analytical and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to interpret complex data and translate information into business decisions
  • Proven ability to identify process improvements and implement practical solutions
  • Proven ability to lead through other leaders and develop high-performing teams
  • Strong coaching, mentoring, and talent development capabilities
  • Security clearance through the Canadian Controlled Goods Program required and must be maintained throughout employment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, negotiation, relationship-building, influencing, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
