6-month contract for a Back-up Operations & DevOps Automation Specialist supporting enterprise backup, recovery, and automation services with Azure, VMware, and Commvault.
Responsibilities
This role involves supporting enterprise backup, recovery, and automation services. It is designed to balance L1 operational support with L2/L3 DevOps and automation enablement, ensuring stable day-to-day operations while enhancing reliability and efficiency through automation. The successful candidate will work with Azure networking & transit and VMware, focusing on Commvault operations, disaster recovery (DR) and cyber recovery (CR) readiness, and modern automation practices using Azure DevOps, Terraform, scripting, and AI-assisted tools such as Copilot. This is a hybrid position, requiring 2 days of work from home and 3 days onsite at York St in Toronto.
Requirements
Hands-on experience in enterprise backup operations (Azure, VMware, Windows file systems, SQL Server, Active Directory). Strong operational knowledge of Commvault (job monitoring, troubleshooting, storage libraries, infrastructure health). Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipeline operations. Practical experience using Terraform, particularly for Azure networking and transit. Strong scripting and automation skills for Azure and Windows environments. Experience in supporting vulnerability management and patching in production environments. Familiarity with Copilot or AI-assisted tools for automation and operational efficiency. Nice to have: Experience supporting DR and Cyber Recovery validation exercises. Experience in environments with formal runbooks, change management, and incident management processes. Exposure to regulated or audit-driven IT environments.
