About the role
- Software Engineering Co-op building backend features, APIs, and integrations for Achievers’ employee recognition platform. Developing Go and Python tests while learning from experienced engineers in Toronto.
Responsibilities
- Build, own, and maintain new innovative product features by building POCs and testing new ideas
- Collaborate with Senior Engineers through mentorship, code reviews, and technical guidance
- Create pull requests, review code, merge branches, and provide and seek feedback in GitHub
- Develop and test new features that help scale user data and HR integration services
- Create automated test cases using Go and Python to improve reliability and speed up release cycles
- Contribute to backend development using Go (Golang), including building APIs, fixing bugs, and integrating with microservices
- Assist with UI updates and enhancements using React
- Gain experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Google Pub/Sub, and other frameworks and services
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a co-op program in Software Engineering or a similar relevant field
- Completed a few successful co-ops/internships
- Experience with back-end or full-stack projects
- Proactiveness and enthusiasm to ask questions, seek feedback, and support the team with a variety of tasks
- Passion for Software Engineering and a drive to learn and grow
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Advantageous: Advanced prior co-op experience; Year 3 or 4
- Advantageous: Experience with Python, Go, React, or similar programming languages
- Advantageous: Experience working in an Agile environment using Jira
- Advantageous: Prior experience with GitHub, Kubernetes, and GCP
- Advantageous: Prior exposure to microservices
