About the role

  • IT Security Manager leading a team to secure technology environment at Alberta Securities Commission. Overseeing cybersecurity roadmap, risk management, and fostering culture of awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a small team in the design, delivery, and management of a secure and resilient technology environment
  • Lead the operationalization of the strategic vision for all cybersecurity initiatives
  • Develop, evolve, and execute a multi-year cybersecurity roadmap and identify associated resource requirements
  • Build and sustain a culture of cybersecurity awareness, accountability, and shared responsibility across the organization
  • Design and lead organization-wide cybersecurity and awareness programs
  • Lead, mentor, and empower a high-performing security team
  • Oversee the cybersecurity program, including risk management, threat detection, incident response, and disaster recovery
  • Manage vendor and third-party risk across the procurement and contract lifecycle.

Requirements

  • A university degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field
  • Relevant professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CCSP, or equivalent, are strongly preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in information security with at least five years in a managerial role
  • Experience using leading frameworks (NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS 18, etc.)
  • Demonstrated expertise in cyber risk management, incident response, threat intelligence, security architecture, and compliance frameworks
  • Deep knowledge in cybersecurity architecture and risk management
  • Experience with DevSecOps, zero trust, perimeter, and identity-based security
  • Experience with Microsoft security solutions, and cloud security (specifically Azure) is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with POPA and ATIA concerns related to Alberta public service organizations would be an asset
  • Excellent strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills in balancing security maturity with business enablement
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills to translate technical risk into business language
  • Skills in negotiation and collaboration with the ability to build and maintain relationships with executive stakeholders, vendors, and external partners.
