About the role

Senior Software Engineer building scalable ledger systems for Alpaca’s global brokerage infrastructure. Designing backend services that ensure accurate financial records for millions of trading users.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain systems and services forming the foundation of Alpaca’s brokerage infrastructure
Build and maintain the modern ledger system as the source of truth for account activity and transactional data
Collaborate with finance, operations, and product teams to deliver high-impact features and projects
Build backend systems/components with integrity, maintainability, scalability, and stability
Own delivery of high-visibility features/projects from design to deployment
Collaborate with engineering teams to improve the health of Alpaca’s systems
Autonomously design and implement solutions while helping define goals with a cross-functional team

A seasoned engineer with 5+ years of experience working on systems at scale
Strong coding skills, preferably in Go
Experience with IDLs (e.g., protobuf), RPC frameworks (e.g., gRPC), cloud platforms (e.g., GCP), and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)
Ability to debug issues or foresee problems and avoid them entirely
Experience architecting and building at scale
Ability to create alignment with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience in the financial services or accounting industry (nice-to-have)
Experience with distributed systems/databases (nice-to-have)
Experience with event-driven systems and messaging brokers (e.g., Redpanda) (nice-to-have)
Experience working remotely (nice-to-have)
Experience working at a startup (nice-to-have)
