About the role
- Senior Software Engineer designing scalable brokerage systems for Alpaca, a global agent-first brokerage infrastructure provider. Building Go services, React administration tools, and financial integrations supporting multiple markets and currencies.
Responsibilities
- Design a highly scalable, mission-critical brokerage system
- Develop and enhance middle- and back-office systems, including gRPC microservices, a React-based UI for internal administration and API developers, and third-party vendor integrations
- Work with core teams to enhance and transform the core framework for multiple languages, currencies, and markets
- Collaborate with tech leads in other regions synchronously and asynchronously using Slack and occasional meetings outside regular working hours
- Troubleshoot incidents and reported bugs to maintain system integrity and performance
- Navigate regulatory requirements and build scalable solutions supporting international growth
- Participate in on-call support for timely engineering projects
- Support regional recruitment initiatives and cross-functional team projects
- Mentor engineering talent on principles and practices and foster Alpaca culture in the region
- Serve as operational reliability and engineering lead and incident commander during regional business hours, ensuring proactive 24x7 stability
- Architect and implement solutions aligned with strategic objectives
Requirements
- Strong problem-solving skills and proactive mindset
- Proficiency in Go or similar backend languages
- Expertise designing robust and efficient system architectures
- Strong computer science fundamentals
- Proven software engineering architecture experience
- Ability to act as incident commander and lead and troubleshoot incidents or bugs
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote, globally distributed team and under pressure
- Strategic thinking and ability to translate technical concepts into business strategies
- Experience with event-driven design
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with global teams, local regulators, vendors, and internal stakeholders
