About the role

  • Mining Process Engineer designing and implementing intelligent control systems for mineral processing operations at ALS. Focused on enhancing performance via programming and process optimisation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build intelligent control systems that transform plant performance at mining and mineral processing operations
  • Use correct methods in accordance with established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures
  • Develop, commission, and optimise PLC, SCADA, and advanced process control (APC) systems
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot control system faults and performance issues
  • Write and maintain applications in Python, C/C++, Bash, SQL, and other scripting languages
  • Configure and commission historian, analytics, and reporting systems
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation across projects
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, drawings, and version control
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering or Computer Science (Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field)
  • 5+ years experience designing, testing, and commissioning industrial control systems
  • Proficiency in PLC and SCADA/HMI programming across any major platform
  • Understanding of process control in mineral processing or mining environments
  • Hands-on familiarity with industrial networks and communications protocols
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently on complex systems and collaborate effectively with plant operators and engineers
  • Experience with Linux-based environments (Arch Linux experience highly regarded)
  • Experience with APC, data analytics, historians, and data visualisation tools (asset)
  • PCB design or microcontroller experience (asset)
