About the role

  • Safety Advisor ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations on construction sites. Supporting the management of SSE practices within hydroelectric projects across Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with health, safety and environmental (HSE) requirements on the construction site by following the HSE plan in accordance with company standards, client requirements and government regulations;
  • Supports the site manager in HSE management and the implementation of safety instructions for our workers and partners;
  • Serves as the point of contact with the client's HSE organization and provincial regulatory authorities;
  • Prepares weekly and monthly HSE statistical reports;
  • Assists in the implementation and update of the HSE plan;
  • Participates in hazard identification and in defining control measures (through safe work procedures, risk analyses, etc.);
  • Performs and documents regular safety checks and HSE inspections;
  • Participates in toolbox talks;
  • Coordinates the health and safety committee;
  • Investigates and documents accidents and incidents; conducts root cause analyses for HSE-related issues;
  • Coordinates all HSE aspects related to site activities;
  • Provides basic HSE training as well as site-specific HSE training;
  • Coordinates required HSE training activities on site;
  • Coordinates first aid, first aid attendants and fire protection programs;
  • Recommends immediate corrective actions for HSE issues and follows up to verify the effectiveness of those corrections;
  • Ensures the maintenance of OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and COR certifications on site;
  • Supports the execution of internal audits on site and at our facilities; coordinates external audits;
  • Coordinates with provincial worker safety agencies;
  • Works with the HSE advisor to update the HSE management system.

Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in HSE management on construction sites or in heavy industry;
  • University degree in health and safety or equivalent;
  • Knowledge of Canadian occupational health and safety legislation for the construction sector;
  • Experience dealing with a unionized environment;
  • Experience working on construction sites (experience in hydroelectric power plants is an asset);
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) at all levels of the organization;
  • Recognized auditing and training skills in health, safety and environment;
  • Proven leadership qualities in a team-based, common-goal work environment;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, sound judgment, initiative and creativity;
  • Willingness to travel and flexibility in work hours.
