About the role

  • Medical Science Liaison advancing AstraZeneca’s oncology pipeline and treatment decisions across Ontario West. Translating scientific evidence for oncologists, clinical sites and research partners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead balanced, objective discussions with healthcare professionals on new and emerging data, including benefits and risks that inform treatment decisions
  • Engage experts as scientific consultants in advisory boards, speaker programs and clinical trials aligned to strategic priorities
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with healthcare professionals demonstrating scientific excellence for forward-looking basic and preclinical research
  • Provide regional understanding of clinical practice patterns, key issues and trends to inform medical plans and evidence generation
  • Act as regional field-based subject matter expert in lifecycle management of products in assigned therapeutic areas
  • Use scientific exchange to identify research opportunities with healthcare professionals and connect them to the Medical Advisor through the Externally Sponsored Research process
  • Equip priority clinical sites with relevant molecule and disease expertise at or near site initiation
  • Collaborate with clinical operations to support timely site activation and patient recruitment

Requirements

  • Ability to effectively synthesize and communicate scientific information at a peer level with a physician
  • Previous experience as a healthcare professional (PharmD, MD) or scientific expertise including PhD or MSc
  • Two or more years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in a physician-facing role
  • Excellent ability to learn and capacity for scientific concepts and knowledge
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and teamwork skills
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work in a self-directed manner
  • Expert knowledge of the health care environment regarding Opinion Leaders, Academia and the Medical Community
  • Local, regional and national travel required
  • Oncology (gastrointestinal cancers) experience preferred
