About the role

  • MSL Manager leading Ontario hematology field medical affairs for AstraZeneca, a global pharmaceutical company. Coaching MSLs, executing medical strategy, and supporting oncology stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and develop a field-based MSL team supporting Medical and Brand Strategic Plans
  • Align the MSL regional plan with the Canadian Medical plan
  • Drive implementation of medical strategy at a regional level
  • Ensure MSL contact lists align with medical head office guidance
  • Ensure MSL interactions against contact lists are achieved
  • Support HCP insight collection and communicate findings to Oncology Medical Affairs Leadership and cross-functional teams
  • Drive team performance and report key metrics and activities to Oncology Medical Affairs Leadership
  • Align MSL activities with other cross-functional roles
  • Maintain scientific and business expertise relevant to the AZ hematology portfolio
  • Represent field medical on internal project teams
  • Run training, professional development and performance management for team members
  • Develop MSL capabilities in scientific exchange and strategic relationships
  • Collaborate with other MSL managers to create consistency and drive team performance
  • Ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements and AZ policies
  • Lead and supervise team financial resources
  • Dedicate up to 40% of time to field coverage in Ontario or head office activities, as required by business needs and MSL team size

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific degree (MD, PhD, or PharmD preferred)
  • At least 5 years of MSL experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Previous experience leading, coaching and mentoring a team
  • Strong talent development and performance management mindset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Strong strategic thinking
  • Experience in product launch preparation and execution
  • Ability to build effective cross-functional collaboration across Medical Affairs, Commercial, Clinical Operations and other functions
  • Previous experience working in Oncology preferred
  • Experience in hematology and/or cell therapy is an asset
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally, regionally and nationally
