About the role

  • Underwriting senior manager analyzing and structuring complex business loans for BDC, Canada’s business development bank. Ensuring credit compliance, negotiating deal terms, and mentoring underwriting teams.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct proper investigations and due diligence for medium to high complexity loan proposals
  • Present high-quality proposals with appropriate analysis and documentation
  • Ensure risk levels remain within accepted credit practices and BDC policies and procedures
  • Develop terms, pricing, conditions and covenants
  • Review loan packages and negotiate with internal partners on deal structuring
  • Resolve compliance issues or material changes during negotiation and structuring
  • Develop win-win solutions for clients and BDC
  • Maintain relationships with business center personnel, colleagues and internal partners
  • Monitor changes to policies, procedures, credit trends and regulatory issues
  • Coach new employees and BDLs; mentor and share experience with team members

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, business administration or accounting
  • CPA designation and banking experience are a definite asset
  • 3 to 5 years or more of relevant experience
  • Experience in corporate and/or syndicated financing
  • Experience in loan writing and ability to analyze and structure complex financial deals
  • Sound credit judgement coupled with a strong understanding of credit policies and practices
  • Thorough knowledge of bank products, services, policies and procedures
  • Ability to provide high quality customer service to internal/external clients
  • Ability to develop win-win solutions through innovative thinking
  • Strong communication skills to interact and negotiate with internal partners and, in certain instances, clients
  • Good time management and priority setting skills to meet critical deadlines
  • Strong business acumen
  • Team player with a thorough understanding of the dynamics of the small business and mid-market environment
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset
