Voluntary Blog Editor commissioning and editing applied ecology posts for British Ecological Society journals. Promoting research and blog content through social media and ecological community networks.
Responsibilities
Commission or write 2–3 blog posts per month, including posts by authors on recently published articles, blog series, broader pieces on trends or debates, and community-focused pieces
Proofread and edit commissioned draft posts before publication to ensure quality and alignment with the blog’s style and tone
Assist with copy-editing and publishing research summaries on an ad-hoc basis
Attend a monthly online meeting to discuss upcoming plans and develop new blog ideas
Provide copy for promoting blog posts on social media and actively help promote social media posts
Promote the journal and blog at relevant conferences, meetings, and workshops when requested
Work with the journals’ Editorial Offices to identify, commission, and deliver scientifically robust, high-quality blog content
Receive dedicated training on Canva and WordPress and contribute to journal social media accounts
Requirements
PhD in ecology or equivalent
Excellent written English
Effective and clear communication
Keen eye for detail
Good organisational and project management skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to network and a willingness to use this when working on topical blog posts
Ability to identify gaps in current content and devise new initiatives
Tenacity and self-motivation
Experience of contributing to a scientific blog or similar desired, but not essential
Experience with social media desired, but not essential
Experience with podcasting and video editing desired, but not essential
