About the role

  • Part-time Brock University practicum advisor mentoring technological education teacher candidates. Supervising placements, providing feedback, and supporting blended course delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Advise, coach, mentor, and provide feedback to technological education candidates in Block 2 Practicum (8R75)
  • Collaborate with associate teachers, principals, co-instructors, course team leads, and other instructors
  • Meet students in person or online and visit and liaise with associate teachers and principals as needed
  • Deliver course instruction in designated modes, including lecture and blended formats
  • Prepare lecture materials and manage learning management systems
  • Consult with students, hold office hours, and complete course administration
  • Mark and grade student work and submit final grades by deadlines
  • Adapt instructional and assessment strategies for diverse adult learning needs
  • Attend program meetings, course team meetings, debriefings, and required training
  • Complete the required Brock instructor online tutorial before the first class
  • Use the provided Brock email for Brock-related communications
  • Manage attendance and course records
  • Participate in departmental referral procedures as warranted
  • Become familiar with and adhere to Brock University policies

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of high school teaching or leadership experience in specified BBTs
  • Master's degree or other recognized specialization in technological education, such as a 3-level Ontario College of Teachers additional qualification Honour Technological Education Specialist specialization
  • Demonstrated leadership in curriculum, education and/or professional development related to technological education
  • Familiarity with the Technological Education program, Ontario curriculum, supporting documents, approved resources, and classroom safety
  • Contemporary knowledge of educational theory and pedagogy, including assessment relevant to technological education
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially growth-oriented feedback for beginning teacher candidates
  • Knowledge of social justice and equity, including sexual and gender diversity, anti-racism, and Indigenous and decolonizing practices
  • Experience with technological education teacher candidates or other adult learners
  • Competency using educational technology and platforms for content creation, course management, and delivery
  • Experience with blended course delivery
  • Knowledge of technological education safety practices applicable to secondary schools
  • Experience facilitating challenging conversations with adult learners
  • Experience with instructional design for blended course delivery
