About the role

  • Underwriter in Commercial Lines evaluating and pricing risks within established guidelines. Collaborating with teams to manage client relationships and ensure compliance with underwriting practices.

Responsibilities

  • Support the underwriting of a portfolio of commercial business within established program guidelines and authority limits
  • Evaluate and price risks with guidance, applying consistent underwriting practices to support profitable growth
  • Quote and bind new business, renewals, and endorsements with a focus on scalability and operational efficiency
  • Support client management activities by responding to inquiries, addressing basic issues, and ensuring a high level of service
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with insurers, clients, and internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support program performance and operational efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, program rules, and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to process improvements and program enhancements where appropriate
  • Utilize internal systems for policy inquiries, electronic filing, underwriting, and rating transactions
  • Participate in training and development to build underwriting knowledge and expertise
  • Contribute as a strong team player, supporting team initiatives and fostering a collaborative environment
  • Opportunity to participate in occasional travel

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of commercial brokering, underwriting, or insurance experience
  • RIBO license required
  • Strong interest in developing a career in commercial underwriting
  • Good relationship-building skills with clients, insurers, and team members
  • Ability to manage tasks in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
