About the role

  • Commercial Lines New Business Underwriter specializing in Multi-Family and Landlord insurance for urban properties. Engaging with brokers for account management and risk underwriting.

Responsibilities

  • Handle new business accounts through outbound interaction with various carriers and brokers.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with internal sales staff on new business submissions.
  • Underwrite habitational risks by identifying and analyzing risk exposures, loss frequency and severity against desired coverage.
  • Develop relationships with both external and internal customers, with the 'customer experience' in mind, and deliver exceptional experiences with every interaction, in all modes of communication.
  • Provide and create solutions for a broad range of inquiries from brokers and team members.
  • Adhere to rating rules with proper file documentation.
  • Navigate our online broker portal to complete tasks and troubleshoot.
  • Identify opportunities to improve underwriting efficiencies.
  • Work independently within deadlines while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with stakeholders.
  • Obtain and understand market intel and trends.
  • Handle work with a focus on underwriting profitability.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of commercial property underwriting E&S experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of habitational P&C policies preferred.
  • Property and Casualty insurance license preferred (6 months preparation time permitted).
  • Eager for continual learning; professional designations are a plus.
  • Must be self-driven, detail-oriented, comfortable in a growing ever-changing organization, and have strong organizational skills including time-management and prioritization.
  • Some travel may be required from time to time for team and broker meetings.
