About the role
- Forward Deployed Engineer modernizing customer data platforms and deploying ML/AI systems for OpsGuru. Building pipelines, LLM workflows, and MLOps solutions within client environments.
Responsibilities
- Deploy directly into customer environments to understand domain logic, data pipelines, and architectural constraints
- Own end-to-end delivery from data discovery and schema design through pipeline deployment and model integration
- Partner with client business leaders to evaluate legacy technology estates
- Refactor legacy data setups into modern lakehouses, event-driven streaming systems, and scalable vector/graph databases
- Apply Spec-Driven Development using Generative AI tools
- Write structured specifications for data models, API schemas, transformations, and evaluation metrics
- Architect and deploy GenAI workflows, RAG pipelines, and autonomous AI agents
- Establish evaluation frameworks for model accuracy, latency, and hallucination control
- Build, deploy, and maintain ML training and inference pipelines
- Ensure CI/CD for models and data workflows
- Design and audit production code across data-centric languages and frameworks
- Establish reusable agentic development patterns, MLOps practices, data reliability frameworks, and SDD methodologies
- Elevate customer teams through enablement and knowledge transfer
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience as a Principal Data Engineer, Lead ML Engineer, or Enterprise Data Architect building and scaling distributed data and ML platforms
- Strong executive presence and communication skills for working with technical teams and business stakeholders under pressure
- Mastery of distributed computing, including AWS Glue, Apache Spark, and Databricks
- Experience with modern data warehouses including Redshift and Snowflake
- Experience with data modeling tools such as dbt and data orchestration tools such as Airflow
- Hands-on experience fine-tuning, evaluating, and deploying LLMs, embedding models, and vector stores
- Advanced proficiency in Python and complex SQL
- Fluency in at least two additional languages such as Scala, Go, Rust, or TypeScript
- Experience using natural language and structured specifications with Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot to generate data pipelines, schemas, and API adapters
- Hands-on experience with AWS or Azure cloud-native data services
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform
- Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites
- Preferred: prior experience in Forward Deployed Engineer, Data Architect, or technical consulting/professional services roles
- Preferred: experience migrating legacy on-premise data warehouses or Hadoop estates to modern cloud lakehouses
- Preferred: understanding of data governance, HIPAA, SOC2, GDPR, and privacy-preserving machine learning
