About the role

  • Announcer/Operator leading Gwich’in language radio program for CBC North. Responsible for content preparation, hosting, and promoting community relations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare material for broadcast.
  • Pitch stories, schedule guests, prepare background notes and questions and conduct interviews.
  • Develop and maintain contact with diverse community sources.
  • Provide continuity between segments on air.
  • Edit program material.
  • Participate in community relations activities to promote the CBC.
  • Direct a program or program segment in studio or at a remote location.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of communication with members of the audience.
  • Archive programs and program scripts and lineups.
  • Perform incidental technical functions necessary to ensure the smooth and continuous functioning of the station.

Requirements

  • The ability to speak, or a demonstrated interest in learning, the Gwich’in language.
  • Strong writing and interviewing skills.
  • Computer skills and the ability to learn and use social media networks.
  • A strong understanding of Indigenous storytelling.
  • The ability to think critically.
  • Previous on-air experience in radio or television would be an asset.
  • Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
