About the role
- Announcer/Operator leading Gwich’in language radio program for CBC North. Responsible for content preparation, hosting, and promoting community relations.
Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare material for broadcast.
- Pitch stories, schedule guests, prepare background notes and questions and conduct interviews.
- Develop and maintain contact with diverse community sources.
- Provide continuity between segments on air.
- Edit program material.
- Participate in community relations activities to promote the CBC.
- Direct a program or program segment in studio or at a remote location.
- Maintain an appropriate level of communication with members of the audience.
- Archive programs and program scripts and lineups.
- Perform incidental technical functions necessary to ensure the smooth and continuous functioning of the station.
Requirements
- The ability to speak, or a demonstrated interest in learning, the Gwich’in language.
- Strong writing and interviewing skills.
- Computer skills and the ability to learn and use social media networks.
- A strong understanding of Indigenous storytelling.
- The ability to think critically.
- Previous on-air experience in radio or television would be an asset.
- Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
