About the role

  • Grant Writer creating ethical, donor-centered proposals and reports for MSF Canada’s emergency medical humanitarian programs. Translating complex field operations into fundraising narratives that secure major and multi-year gifts.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver compelling, donor-centered philanthropic materials that inspire investment and deepen donor engagement
  • Translate complex operational information into persuasive narratives articulating the case for support
  • Produce grant applications, proposals, and reports meeting deadlines and funder expectations
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to surface programmatic content and shape fundraising opportunities
  • Strengthen the quality and strategic alignment of philanthropic communications to maximize fundraising outcomes
  • Work with the Grant Manager in Humanitarian Affairs to review public institutional proposals and reports and oversee designated and restricted funding processes
  • Craft grant applications and major gift proposals for MSF emergency medical missions and operational needs
  • Translate humanitarian crises, medical interventions, and operational challenges into ethical donor communications
  • Gather accurate content from humanitarian affairs, operational centers, and technical advisors
  • Develop tailored donor reports and stewardship materials communicating project outcomes, challenges, financial stewardship, and frontline impact
  • Align philanthropic communications with MSF advocacy positions, communications policies, and brand voice

Requirements

  • Considerable professional experience in writing, such as grant writing or journalism, with a proven track record working with fundraisers to secure major donations from private and public sources
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  • Ability to tailor content for high-value donors while maintaining operational accuracy
  • Strong understanding of philanthropic fundraising practices, restricted funding mechanisms, and donor stewardship principles
  • Knowledge of compliance issues related to Canadian charitable giving
  • Ability to translate complex operational, financial, and medical information into accessible and compelling narratives
  • Highly organized, deadline-driven, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Collaborative spirit and excellent interpersonal skills; comfortable working across departments and with international colleagues
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Asana, and content management systems
  • Familiarity with fundraising databases is an asset
  • Experience within an international NGO, humanitarian, or medical organization is an asset
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Media, or International Development, or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Proficiency in French is an asset
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Regular hours Monday to Friday (9 a.m.–5 p.m., core hours 10 a.m.–3 p.m.); occasional evenings or weekends
