About the role

  • Model Validation Manager validating credit and treasury risk models at EQ Bank, Canada’s challenger bank. Preparing validation reports and supporting model risk governance.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Director, Model Risk Management and support model validation activities across the Bank.
  • Execute validation procedures and contribute to validation strategies and plans.
  • Validate models used for credit and treasury risk management, including AIRB, IFRS 9 ECL, interest rate risk, liquidity risk, and ICAAP stress testing.
  • Review model methodologies, assumptions, intended use, limitations, inputs, implementation, and performance.
  • Conduct benchmark, outcome, sensitivity, scenario, stress-testing, implementation, and user acceptance analyses.
  • Prepare model validation reports, document issues and recommendations, define model limitations and effective use ranges, and assess model risk.
  • Communicate model risk issues and independent recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Support model governance through metadata tracking, annual attestations, regulatory self-assessments, risk reporting, and related activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, regulatory expectations, and model risk management practices.
  • Provide independent feedback to model developers and risk management groups while maintaining validation independence.
  • Build stakeholder relationships, provide practical guidance, share knowledge, and escalate complex issues to the Director.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Mathematical Finance, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Economics, or an equivalent quantitative discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in quantitative modeling and/or model validation within the financial industry.
  • Experience within financial services or another highly regulated environment strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of model risk management and governance.
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles and practices.
  • Strong experience with programming languages, which may include Python, R, SAS, C++, C#, Java, and MATLAB.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent project management, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent technical documentation and report-writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
