About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex transactions in the mining, metals, critical minerals and related infrastructure sectors from origination through closing
  • Identify and generate investment opportunities and build a pipeline of potential transactions
  • Structure tailored financing solutions spanning equity, debt, hybrid instruments, structured finance, offtake agreements and price-stabilization mechanisms
  • Assess project economics, financing requirements, capital structures, returns, risk allocation and transaction considerations
  • Oversee financial analysis, valuations, scenario analysis and cash flow modeling
  • Develop and present investment and credit recommendations to senior management and decision-making committees
  • Develop and maintain relationships with project sponsors, investors, financial institutions, governments and industry stakeholders
  • Lead multidisciplinary transaction teams and coordinate internal specialists and external advisors
  • Negotiate financing, investment, shareholder and intercreditor agreements, offtake agreements and other contracts
  • Lead syndication initiatives and collaborate with legal, risk management, economic, environmental and social, and portfolio management teams
  • Monitor risks, project progress, compliance and investment performance after financial close
  • Oversee amendments, waivers, restructurings, follow-on investments and other portfolio decisions
  • Advise senior management on portfolio performance, risks, mitigation strategies and opportunities
  • Monitor developments in commodity markets, financing conditions, policies and industry trends
  • Contribute to the evolution of EDC’s approach to investment through the Canada Growth Fund and strengthen EDC’s capabilities
  • Synthesize complex analyses into investment theses, transaction strategies and recommendations
  • Support and mentor employees involved in transactions

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in project finance, infrastructure investment, private equity, investment banking, transaction advisory, corporate finance or a related transaction-focused field
  • Proven experience managing complex transactions from origination through closing, including structuring, due diligence, negotiation, approval, documentation and subsequent portfolio management
  • Demonstrated ability to generate opportunities, build relationships with senior executives and develop transaction pipelines
  • Experience structuring and executing transactions across multiple levels of the capital structure
  • Relevant experience in mining and metals, critical minerals, natural resources or infrastructure, or a related capital-intensive sector
  • Excellent understanding of transaction origination, valuation, financial modeling, project cash flow analysis, investment returns and risk allocation
  • Demonstrated ability to assess project economics, financing requirements, capital structures, business risks and key investment considerations
  • Excellent negotiation skills and experience working with complex financing, investment, shareholder and intercreditor agreements, offtake agreements and related commercial contracts
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary transaction teams and coordinating internal specialists, external advisors, counterparties and other stakeholders
  • Ability to synthesize complex financial, commercial, technical and market information and translate it into clear investment theses, transaction strategies and recommendations for senior management
  • Postsecondary degree in finance, business administration, engineering, law, economics or a related discipline
  • Professional designation in good standing or other relevant credentials is an asset
  • Candidates must meet government security requirements
