About the role
- Seasonal equipment operator maintaining Ontario highways, roadways, and infrastructure assets for Webber, a heavy civil construction company. Operating snow-removal and mobile equipment while performing repairs, traffic control, and emergency response.
Responsibilities
- Maintain contracted assets including roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, and vegetation
- Remove snow and ice using snow removal and sanding equipment
- Maintain and repair highway and other surfaces, signs, guardrails, fencing, lighting, potholes, striping, reflectors, litter, and debris
- Operate vehicles and equipment for surface and right-of-way maintenance and repair
- Repair and maintain slopes, berms, culverts, and drains
- Control vegetation appearance and growth
- Set up and remove traffic controls
- Transport crew and equipment to work sites
- Participate in emergency response rotations, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of three (3) years related work experience in construction, road maintenance, commercial/industrial repair, maintenance or landscaping (outdoor work) (Preferred)
- Valid Ontario Class DZ driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Successful completion of training in traffic control methods, first aid, transportation of dangerous goods, WHMIS, and job-related Occupational Health
- Effective oral and written communication in English
- Basic mathematical skills
- Ability to follow policies, procedures, written and oral instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing demands and priorities
- Skill with hand and power tools, traffic control devices, tractors, graders, mowers, sweepers, augers, and other mobile equipment
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
- Ability to use manual and powered pneumatic, hydraulic, gas, and electric tools and equipment
- Ability to recognize hazards and maintain safety awareness
- Ability to wear job-appropriate personal protective equipment
