HSE Manager leading safety programs, environmental compliance, ISO certifications, training, and risk assessments for Hydro’s aluminium and renewable energy operations. Managing incident records, PPE, audits, WSIB claims, and return-to-work programs.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement company-wide safety programs, policies, and procedures
Communicate safety requirements to all employees and alert management to serious safety issues
Ensure accurate accident investigations and serious incident reports
Support environmental recordkeeping and administration, including permits, operating conditions, sampling, and regulatory standards
Conduct internal self-assessments or audits for ISO compliance
Maintain multi-site ISO 14001:2015 and 45001:2018 certifications
Maintain Incident Management System information and safety records
Identify and help correct unsafe conditions and conduct risk assessments
Manage critical PPE inventory, including FR-rated and aluminized protective garments
Conduct periodic environmental health and safety inspections
Support managers and supervisors with action plans addressing safety and environmental issues
Develop and provide company-wide training in accordance with OH&S Act, OSHA, environmental regulations, and company standards
Co-chair Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings
Manage WSIB claims with HR and return-to-work processes
Manage the Early Safe Return to Work program
Coach site leadership and personnel toward an HSE interdependent culture
Report to the Operations Manager
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
BA/BS degree in Occupational Safety and Health Management, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or related field
Minimum 5 years progressive HSE responsibilities in a manufacturing environment
Experience in training course development, computer-based training programs and training tracking systems
Working knowledge of Canadian occupational safety legislation (OH&S Act) and environmental reporting and regulations
Knowledge of Canada occupational health and safety (CCOHS) and environmental (ECCC) regulations and recordkeeping is a strong asset
Administration and working knowledge of ISO14001:2015, 45001:2019
CRSP certification is a plus
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Experience with Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) programs
Lean/Continuous Improvement/Six Sigma training or certification is advantageous
5S training or certification is advantageous
Proficiency with Excel, Word, and Access
Adherence to Health, Safety & Environmental requirements and company rules, policies, and procedures
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
Ability to perform occasional bending, reaching, grasping, and lifting of 5–25 lbs
Necessary hearing, vision, and speech capabilities to perform all job functions
