About the role
- Machine learning economist building causal systems for Instacart’s grocery delivery marketplace. Developing pricing, logistics, advertising, and incentive models.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning solutions for economic challenges in Instacart’s complex marketplace
- Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and engineers to understand business needs and create impactful solutions
- Refine and advance algorithms and models to improve operational efficiency
- Share learnings, best practices, and research across Economics team domains
- Apply economic theory, econometrics, and machine learning to marketplace problems including incentives, pricing, product placement, matching, logistics, advertising, uplift, long-term value modeling, and causal inference
Requirements
- Graduate Degree (Masters or PhD) in Economics or a closely related field
- Experience applying causal inference methodologies to observational and experimental datasets
- Understanding of machine learning algorithms and techniques
- Strong Python programming skills
- Fluency in SQL and Pandas for data manipulation
- Fluency with machine learning tools such as scikit-learn and XGBoost
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivation and strong ownership
