About the role

  • Senior Deep Learning Engineer developing player-tracking, evaluation, and forecasting models for SumerSports’ football intelligence platform. Driving research threads into production for NFL and NCAA teams.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the entire modeling lifecycle, including training, testing, and evaluation
  • Drive one or two flagship modeling threads from problem definition through evaluation to production
  • Serve as a senior peer to the existing research team
  • Push back, share judgment, and build consensus on what to try next
  • Work with football subject-matter experts on feature design and label discipline
  • Mentor mid-level engineers
  • Build out the experimentation harness so the team can run more ideas faster
  • Work closely with the research team on player tracking data, evaluation, and forecasting models
  • Provide senior input on modeling decisions

Requirements

  • Track record shipping deep-learning models at scale
  • Experience with transformer, sequence, or multimodal architectures
  • Strong fluency with PyTorch and PyTorch Lightning
  • Experience with distributed training
  • Knowledge of attention variants and training-dynamics debugging
  • Real football expertise, including catch probability, EPA limitations, route trees, and coverage
  • Senior individual-contributor drive and ability to scope ambiguous problems
  • Strong model evaluation instincts
  • AI-native approach to building skills, loops, and tooling
  • Stays current with research, papers, releases, and new techniques
  • Comfortable being a senior voice among senior voices
  • Clear communication with non-DL audiences
