About the role
- Machine Learning Engineer II developing production ML models for Affirm’s pay-over-time platform. Building credit decisioning systems, scalable pipelines, and algorithms that predict default and guide approvals.
Responsibilities
- Develop machine learning models using proprietary and third-party data to predict default likelihood and make approval or decline decisions
- Partner with platform and product engineering teams to build model training, decisioning, and monitoring systems
- Research solutions and develop prototypes for credit decisioning
- Implement and scale data pipelines, features, and algorithms for production models
- Collaborate with engineering, credit, and product teams to define requirements for new products
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience as a machine learning engineer or PhD in a relevant field
- Proficiency in machine learning, including Generalized Linear Models, Gradient Boosting, Deep Learning, and Probabilistic Calibration
- Strong engineering skills in Python
- Data manipulation skills such as SQL
- Experience with large-scale distributed systems such as Spark or Ray
- Experience with scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy, XGBoost, and Kubeflow
- Experience developing machine learning models at scale from inception to business impact
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to drive cross-functional requirements with product and engineering teams
- Ability to present technical concepts and results appropriately
- Domain knowledge in credit risk is a plus
