About the role
- Senior frontend engineer leading React architecture for Instacart’s self-serve advertising platform. Building campaign management, reporting, performance, and design-system experiences.
Responsibilities
- Own the Ads Manager frontend technical direction and lead large, multi-quarter initiatives
- Lead the technical roadmap and architecture for Ads Manager web applications
- Design, build, and maintain React UIs for campaign creation, management, reporting, and optimization
- Define and evolve shared components, state management, and frontend abstractions
- Partner with backend teams on API and data contracts
- Collaborate with frontend leads and company peers on frontend standards and best practices
- Champion observability, performance, and reliability, including metrics, logging, tracing, and on-call readiness
- Drive frontend modernization, technical debt paydown, migrations, and refactors
- Embed security-by-design and lead responses to significant security or reliability issues
- Lead cross-team initiatives and align stakeholders across Ads and partner teams
- Work with designers to build a best-in-class user experience
- Mentor and sponsor engineers up to L5 and improve onboarding and team practices
- Help define best practices for AI-assisted development tools
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience building modern web applications
- Deep expertise in Node.js and React, including hooks, state management, and performance tuning
- Strong frontend architecture skills: modularization, shared components, routing, data fetching, and error handling
- Experience designing and integrating REST and/or GraphQL APIs
- Experience leading large, ambiguous, multi-stakeholder projects from design through rollout and operations
- Demonstrated impact on team productivity and code health through abstractions, tooling, testing, and CI improvements
- Experience with monitoring and observability for web applications, such as Datadog or similar
- Comfortable using AI-assisted developer tools
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Currently eligible to work from Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, or Nova Scotia, Canada
- Preferred: experience with large-scale data-heavy UIs, GraphQL at scale, Selenium/Cypress/Playwright, frontend performance and reliability, major migrations, Figma, and mentoring L3–L5 engineers
