About the role

  • Group Manager leading unionized plant operations for JELD-WEN, a global doors, windows, and building-products manufacturer. Driving Lean manufacturing, safety, quality, delivery, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with JELD-WEN EH&S requirements and applicable legal requirements, policies, standards, rules, and programs
  • Manage unionized plant personnel at manufacturing facilities to ensure timely and cost-effective production of JELD-WEN products
  • Maintain and enhance standards for product quality, equipment, and operational performance
  • Use SQDCI, TPS, OTD, and Continuous Improvement methodologies to maximize productivity
  • Manage policy deployment across Lean Manufacturing, quality, cost reduction, delivery, safety, customer satisfaction, employee relations, visual controls, and plant performance
  • Communicate new Continuous Improvement methodologies to production management and plant personnel
  • Advise the production manager on labor issues, including safety, security, employee relations, scheduling, training, and grievances
  • Ensure employees follow JELD-WEN policies and procedures fairly and equitably
  • Coordinate plant activities to accomplish manufacturing objectives in line with corporate goals
  • Provide direction, development, and leadership to plant employees
  • Train and develop staff and take corrective action as needed
  • Consult with Human Resources, Legal, and corporate offices as needed
  • Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Business, Engineering, or a related field
  • At least ten (10) years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably the auto industry or door and window industry
  • Knowledge of management principles and controls relevant to manufacturing operations
  • Knowledge and experience in production and manufacturing process improvement techniques, including SQDCI, TPS, OTD, and Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies
  • LEAN manufacturing and/or production process experience
  • Experience with manufacturing-based technology and ability to effectuate operational changes
  • Leadership, interpersonal, technical aptitude, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and write reports and business correspondence and interpret general business practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present information to Plant Management and respond to questions
  • Excellent business acumen, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead and drive best industry practices and act as a change agent
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other applicable software applications
  • Knowledge of manufacturing/OSHA health and safety standards and compliance
