About the role

  • Lead Substation Engineer executing substation design projects at Leidos. Collaborating with teams and clients while adhering to safety and quality control requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Execute both substation physical and P&C projects
  • Interact with internal team and clients to meet project needs
  • Perform quality control checks on substation physical and P&C design projects
  • Read and design substation design drawings (one-line drawings, three-line drawings, schematics, wiring, plan-section drawings, conduit and grounding drawings)
  • Create and check bill of materials for substation physical and P&C Quality Control Checks Design
  • Complete Project Lifecycle Support from Scoping to Final Design and Implementation
  • Apply Minimum Requirements of the National Electrical Safety Code to Design Processes
  • Work with Client Standards to Implement Design
  • Collaborate with a Designer/Drafter to Create Required Drawings
  • Occasionally attend site visits at customer locations
  • Occasionally visit the Framingham Leidos office for collaboration with the team

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or related degree
  • Eight (8+) or more years of related substation design experience
  • Demonstrate Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure situations
  • Collaborator and leader who can work effectively in team environment
  • Self-starter who works independently with minimal direction
  • Strong analytical skills and proven problem solver
  • Engineer Intern (“EI” or “EIT”) professional certification (a plus)
  • Professional Engineer (“PE”) License (a plus)
  • Working knowledge of protection and control design (a plus)
  • Experience with bus calculation (a plus)
  • Experience with grounding studies/lightning protection and lighting studies (a plus)
  • Experience with AC and DC calculations (a plus)
  • Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS (a plus)
  • Experience working on CAD tools (a plus)
  • Field testing/commissioning experience (a plus)
