About the role

  • 2D Concept Artist shaping characters, environments, and gameplay visuals for Ludia’s mobile game studio. Collaborating with art, design, and production teams in hybrid Montreal role.

Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality 2D concepts and illustrations for characters, environments, props, architecture, interactive elements, and gameplay scenes
  • Participate in visual research and exploration to define and evolve the art direction
  • Rapidly produce sketches, explorations, variations, and concepts
  • Develop clear, detailed concepts to guide artists and team members
  • Adapt approach to different art styles, intellectual properties, and franchises
  • Collaborate with the Lead Artist to ensure consistency and quality of the visual direction
  • Incorporate technical and production constraints from the design stage
  • Take part in brainstorming sessions, art reviews, critiques, and production meetings
  • Present and communicate ideas, references, and visual intentions to Art, Design, and Production teams
  • Identify artistic or production issues and propose solutions
  • Manage priorities and meet production deadlines
  • Contribute, as needed, to the creation of storyboards and other visual materials

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience in concept art, illustration, or a similar artistic role in the video game, entertainment, or related industry
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong concept art skills and visual exploration
  • Ability to develop characters, environments, props, and/or architectural elements
  • Excellent command of composition, perspective, forms, values, color, lighting, and anatomy
  • Ability to quickly explore multiple ideas and translate a direction or brief into clear, effective concepts
  • Ability to work across different art styles and adapt to an established visual direction
  • Proficiency with 2D tools relevant to concept art and digital illustration
  • Solid understanding of technical constraints and production realities in game development
  • Ability to present work, explain artistic choices, and incorporate feedback
  • Autonomy, initiative, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working in an Agile environment and familiarity with production management or version control tools is an asset
  • Experience creating games for mobile, PC, or console is an asset
  • Curiosity about new technologies and emerging tools, including artificial intelligence, and an interest in their responsible use
  • Ability to effectively manage priorities in a dynamic production environment
  • Openness to feedback and ability to give and receive constructive critique
  • Be located in the province of Quebec and have the legal right to work in Canada
