About the role

  • Cloud Engineer collaborating on AKS cluster frameworks for Canadian segment at Manulife. Focusing on automation and operational excellence in cloud engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design the AKS cluster model for the Canadian segment
  • Implement improvements to existing infrastructure with zero disruption to business operations
  • Build an integrated end‑to‑end experience for application development teams by combining the AKS clusters owned by our team with capabilities delivered by partner teams—including CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, risk controls, and security services
  • Automate cluster maintenance tasks, operational workflows, and routine processes using Infrastructure‑as‑Code and AI‑assisted tooling
  • Continuously find opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve reliability, and enhance deployment efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise risk and security standards across cluster design, operations, and governance
  • Monitor and maintain the health, performance, scalability, and security of AKS clusters
  • Partner with application development teams to ensure the shared cluster model meets both business and technical needs
  • Work closely with capability‑owner teams (pipelines, observability, risk, security, etc.) to align standards, integrate services, and deliver a cohesive platform experience
  • Maintain positive relationships with business partners and shared technology teams, ensuring alignment on governance, roadmaps, and service delivery

Requirements

  • Experience in cloud computing (Azure strongly preferred)
  • Expertise in automation and Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM, etc.)
  • Experience using AI‑assisted engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Azure OpenAI, or similar)
  • Experience operating or supporting shared platform services—such as shared Kubernetes clusters, CI/CD systems, observability platforms, or security/risk tooling
  • Strong understanding of networking and security concepts
  • Experience with Identity and Access Management (Azure AD, RBAC, workload identity)
  • Proficiency with cloud networking infrastructure and distributed system patterns
  • Hands‑on experience with API gateways and cloud‑based architectures
  • Strong system administration background
  • Scripting/programming proficiency (PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.)
  • Experience with containers and Kubernetes (AKS experience is an asset)
