About the role

  • Senior Financial Analyst supporting McCarthy Tétrault, a Canadian law firm, with financial reporting, rate analysis, budgeting, and business insights. Automating BI reporting and informing pricing and operational strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Capture, use, and analyze financial data for financial reporting and strategic business initiatives
  • Support the Management Team with data gathering and analysis for annual standard and non-standard rate setting
  • Maintain special rates for clients and matters, and rates for new timekeepers
  • Contribute to revenue budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Conduct annual attorney admissions and bonus analysis
  • Gather data, perform productivity and rate analysis, and assist with executive-level presentations
  • Conduct external research and analyze Firm results against available benchmarking information
  • Develop and maintain revenue and rates reporting templates
  • Produce regular monthly and quarterly reports, as well as ad hoc reports, on Firm, practice, region, industry group, timekeeper, client, and matter/case revenue results
  • Support development and automation of reports
  • Enable self-serve reporting capabilities through BI tools or SharePoint
  • Provide actionable recommendations to influence pricing decisions and operational strategy

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience post-graduation
  • 3–5 years of related work experience post-graduation
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • Accounting designation, Master’s Degree (MBA) or Master’s in a related field completed or working towards completion strongly preferred
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel and BI tools for query and visualization
  • Experience with SQL, VBA, Power BI, and Iridium strongly desired
  • Familiarity or experience with practice management applications such as Aderant Expert is an asset but not required
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships and obtain buy-in on common goals
  • Very strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple competing priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines
