About the role

  • Staff Software Engineer building frontier-AI systems for NBCUniversal’s film, television, streaming, and theme-park businesses. Developing scalable APIs, web frontends, databases, and cloud solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of innovative systems and solutions using frontier AI capabilities
  • Rapidly research and test new AI technologies and translate capabilities into measurable business ROI
  • Critically evaluate proposed AI solutions and determine whether problems are suitable for AI
  • Build backends and data layers using business logic, API standards, NBCUniversal gateways, and established best practices
  • Deploy and maintain SQL and NoSQL databases and application storage
  • Design features spanning application UI through underlying APIs
  • Maintain code quality through rigorous testing and code standards, including agent-written code
  • Develop automated tests for functions, services, and objects, with cross-device and cross-browser compatibility
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary, matrixed organization to navigate system complexity and deploy solutions efficiently
  • Deploy to cloud platforms and troubleshoot application, cloud, and configuration issues
  • Use code- and test-generation tools to accelerate delivery
  • Prove the business value of AI foundation models across TV, film, theme parks, and other business groups and bring solutions to production quickly

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in backend or full-stack development
  • Comprehensive portfolio and related experience
  • Systems-thinking capabilities and ability to design for systemic problems
  • Ability to independently bring a basic application from idea to delivery
  • Experience with Python for application development, AWS, database systems, and SQL
  • Experience with the Python ecosystem, including tools for build, test and deployment
  • Deep understanding of ML practices for foundation model integration, including tooling and instrumentation, feature/model selection, and RAG patterns
  • Some fine-tuning, deep learning, and training/algorithm insight
  • Ability to critically evaluate ambiguously stated problems and distinguish user preferences from hard requirements
  • Understanding of API backends and practical experience integrating and consuming APIs in front-end projects
  • Ability to quickly incorporate feedback and adjust to changing priorities
  • Ability to design, communicate, and implement technical architectures and concepts into scalable solutions
  • Competence working in secured internal network environments and complex cloud network setups
  • Familiarity with integrating large language models and AI-generated content technologies into applications
  • Familiarity with LLM integration tools such as LangChain
  • Strong problem-solving ability and adaptability in an evolving technology landscape
  • Effective communication and collaboration across diverse teams and a large, matrixed organization
  • Ability to translate business needs into clear technical requirements
