Responsibilities
Serve as a subject matter expert and advisor on Canadian and international payroll
Ensure payroll practices comply with applicable legal, tax, and regulatory requirements
Monitor legislative, tax, and regulatory changes and assess their impact
Design, document, and execute pre- and post-payroll quality controls
Participate in internal and external audits and follow up on recommendations
Keep payroll policies, procedures, and controls up to date
Plan, coordinate, and carry out year-end payroll activities
Act as the escalation point for complex situations involving taxation, employee mobility, and restructurings
Lead the evolution and optimization of payroll-related systems and tools
Collaborate with systems specialists and HR partners to configure business rules, pay codes, and complex parameters
Validate configuration changes, coordinate testing, and support deployment to production
Support the integration of acquisitions and new entities into payroll systems and processes
Lead the development, review, optimization, and documentation of payroll processes
Identify improvement opportunities and recommend solutions to enhance efficiency, reliability, and automation
Contribute to payroll transformation projects and support stakeholders throughout the process
Process or oversee the most complex payroll cases
Act as a resource for the payroll team
Advise the team on resolving complex situations and contribute to the development of its expertise
Collaborate with the Manager, Total Rewards, to prioritize activities and resolve operational issues
Provide operational backup to ensure business continuity
Take responsibility for processing one payroll group each week
Requirements
College or university education in business administration, accounting, or a related field
PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) certification from the National Payroll Institute, or working toward obtaining it; this certification is a significant asset
At least 10 years of experience in payroll management
Extensive experience managing payroll in a Canadian multi-jurisdictional environment
Experience in an acquisition, entity integration, or organizational transformation environment
Proficiency with payroll management systems, as well as ERP and HRIS platforms used to process payroll data; Dayforce expertise is a significant asset
Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and good knowledge of U.S. regulations is an asset
Strong analytical and complex problem-solving skills
Exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy
Ability to influence and support team members without necessarily having direct supervisory responsibility
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 tools
Fluency in English, as the position requires interaction with English-speaking partners and colleagues in the United States and Western Canada
