About the role

  • Senior Mechanical Piping Engineer at Sedgman focused on heavy industrial projects. Responsible for design, compliance, and site support activities in Montreal.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction and guidance to project personnel to ensure project goals and objectives are achieved efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Monitor compliance with design, identify potential or actual non-conformities, and document them for resolution.
  • Manage materials and consumables, ensuring construction personnel receive the support needed to meet project objectives.
  • Perform engineering functions on site, including risk assessments, quality observations, requests for information and technical clarifications, and construction planning with relevant staff and subcontractors.
  • Work on improvements to mining and industrial processes, plant layouts, selection and integration of processing equipment, fluid and slurry pumping and piping, material handling, etc.
  • Participate in all project phases, including scope definition, proposals, feasibility, detailed design, construction support, commissioning, field engineering, and business development.
  • Prepare and review process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers and technical staff to develop solutions based on calculations and technical simulations.
  • Support procurement, construction, and site activities, including package development, vendor coordination, and bid review.
  • Establish and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to business development efforts.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct activities in accordance with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high level of discipline, knowledge, and vigilance.
  • Always work in accordance with safety instructions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 15 to 20 years of relevant professional experience in mechanical piping.
  • Member of the OIQ (Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec) / Professional Engineer (Quebec).
  • Proven ability to lead small project teams in mechanical design.
  • Prior experience at a mine or on a construction site required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; experience with MS Project or Primavera P6 is highly desirable.
  • Experience in contract administration is an asset.
  • Ability to safely and effectively manage workload, priorities, and activities.
  • Relevant mechanical engineering experience, preferably in the mining sector or related industries.
  • Knowledge of technical analysis software.
  • Experience with industrial plant layouts, pumping and piping systems, conveyors, HVAC, and material handling equipment.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship.
  • Language requirements: excellent written and spoken French. Good spoken English is required due to daily contact with clients, vendors, partners, and colleagues based outside Quebec.
