About the role

  • Senior Full Stack Engineer building GraphQL, React, and TypeScript platforms for PENN Entertainment’s online gaming and sports media products. Improving shared client tooling, server-driven UI, performance, observability, and release workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve GraphQL schemas in a federated graph, including server-driven UI contracts for mobile and web clients
  • Classify breaking schema changes, coordinate migrations with iOS, Android, and web leads, and keep generated client models synchronized
  • Develop, scale, and optimize GraphQL APIs, RPC endpoints, and SQL queries
  • Build front-end applications and shared libraries with React and TypeScript
  • Build fast, accessible web applications
  • Partner with product and design to architect and ship customer-facing features
  • Use observability tooling to diagnose issues and improve guest experiences
  • Set up and refine monitoring and alerting in DataDog
  • Improve code quality by identifying technical debt and proposing fixes
  • Find production bottlenecks and risks and drive platform-scaling improvements
  • Mentor teammates through code review, pairing, and documentation
  • Participate in design, architecture, and feature delivery within a collaborative agile team
  • Write thorough tests for features and bug fixes
  • Work with QA to strengthen automated testing pipelines and CI/CD workflows
  • Use Claude Code in daily development
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in software engineering
  • Strong JavaScript, TypeScript, and React skills, plus UX instincts
  • 2+ years designing and evolving GraphQL schemas for product surfaces used by iOS, Android, and web clients
  • Fluency with HTML, CSS, and browser technologies including DOM, events, and platform APIs
  • Solid computer science foundation covering data structures, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design
  • Understanding of production systems at scale, including load testing and tracing
  • Experience investigating and fixing production performance regressions, CPU hotspots, and latency in high-throughput services
  • Experience with on-call rotation for a production service and end-to-end release ownership
  • Experience authoring technical specifications, runbooks, and cross-team design documents
  • Experience with API development in Node, Bun, Phoenix, Ruby on Rails, FastAPI, or Laravel
  • Experience building and integrating multi-client or white-label platforms, including geo-based routing and per-brand configuration
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerized services
  • Comfort with terminal tools, Git, and GitHub or similar
  • Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest, Vitest, ExUnit, RSpec, or pytest
  • Nice to have: Apollo Federation at scale, Absinthe, iOS or Android development with Swift or Kotlin, hexagonal architecture, domain-driven design, relational databases, background job processing, asynchronous event infrastructure, open-source contributions, startup experience, and sports or esports passion
