About the role
- Senior Backend Engineer designing scalable ad delivery services for FOX's streaming platforms. Collaborating with ML and Data Science teams for optimization and performance.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, distributed backend services that power ad delivery
- across FOX’s streaming platforms
- Build and optimize systems responsible for ad pacing, forecasting, and delivery
- decisioning in near real-time
- Collaborate with ML and Data Science teams to productionize algorithms for campaign
- optimization and performance
- Improve system performance, reliability, and scalability to support hundreds of billions
- of ad impressions
- Develop and maintain integrations with data pipelines, messaging systems, and
- real-time streaming frameworks
- Own services end-to-end, including architecture, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing
- optimization
- Contribute to best practices in system design, code quality, and operational excellence
- Partner cross-functionally with product, infrastructure, and ad tech teams to evolve the
- platform
Requirements
- Minimum five years of production experience designing and building scalable
- distributed systems using JVM languages such as Scala, Java, or Kotlin (Scala preferred)
- Strong experience with relational databases (e.g., Postgres), caching systems (e.g.,
- Redis), and message brokers (e.g., Kafka or Kinesis)
- Experience building and operating near real-time, high-performance, fault-tolerant
- services
- Hands-on experience with big data streaming frameworks such as Apache Spark or
- Flink
- Strong understanding of distributed systems design, concurrency, and system
- trade-offs
- Proven ownership mindset with a focus on building reliable, maintainable systems
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving technical challenges
- NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER
- Experience in ad tech, including ad serving, targeting, delivery, or measurement
- systems
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Kustomize, Terraform, and modern infrastructure tooling
- At least two years of experience working with Akka technologies, particularly clustering
- Experience working on high-scale consumer-facing platforms or streaming ecosystems
- Exposure to ML-driven systems or data-intensive applications
